Hello,
Welcome to my blog! I’m very excited to share this experience with you.
In order to raise awareness and funds for sarcoma research, my family – my mom, older brother Will, younger sister Maggie and I – will walk the Camino Portugues starting in Porto and finishing in Santiago de Compostela. We’ll take the Coastal way, which is about 200 miles. We chose this particular route not only because it will bring me closer to my dad but because it has an even deeper meaning in my family. My uncle Mike, dad’s youngest brother, lived in Portugal for 4 years of his life. Mike died unexpectedly in the summer of 2022. We all miss Mike and my thinking was that this walk will commemorate both him and my dad.
As of now, the plan is as follows:
6/24: Porto - Vila do Conde -17.9 mi
6/25: Vila do Conde - Marinhas - 17.7 mi
6/26: Marinhas - Carreco - 18.5 mi
6/27: Carreco - A Guarda - 14.41 mi
6/28: A Guarda - Baiona - 19.8 mi
6/29: REST DAY in Baiona
6/30: Baiona - Vigo - 16.4 mi
7/1: Vigo - Arcade - 14.6 mi
7/2: Arcade - Caldas de Reis - 21 mi
7/3: Caldas de Reis - Padron - 12 mi
7/4: Padron - Santiago - 15.2 mi
This is a bit of walking over 10 days! Thank goodness my mom agreed to build in a rest day in the middle (not her typical style).
It would really mean the world to me if you decide to follow along on my adventure. I will post every Sunday at 8 pm (mark it in your calendar) and I’ll take you with me as I prepare for this challenge. I’ll share memories of my dad and I may also invite family and friends to tell their own stories. Then, in late June/early July, while we walk the 200 miles on the Camino, I’ll be sure to share daily updates with photos and impressions from our experience.
Thanks and until next Sunday.
AJ - I look forward to following your incredible journey and the daily updates. I have to say I miss your jokes. So, my suggestion is that each day you should sign off your blog by sharing a daily joke with us all. I am sure you have 2 weeks of material stored up :)
