Hi Everyone,
We’ve officially survived day 1. I’m not going to lie and say it was easy. Instead, I’m going to give you an honest and quick overview.
The first 7 miles were a breeze. They were accompanied by beautiful views of the ocean and, for a brief minute, I thought this wasn’t going to be bad after all. However, after realizing that we needed water and stopped, reality hit. It hit really hard.
We were in such a groove and stopping made it very difficult to start up again. We found ourselves taking more breaks, which is what made it harder to continue. The 7 miles after felt like 20. But we pushed through.
We did get a second wind, though, after stopping for lunch. I had delicious pork chops that fueled me for the remainder of the walk.
Then walking became a little easier.
Until the sand.
The boardwalk we were walking on wasn’t fully completed. So, we had to walk around it. On the sand. Walking on the sand takes so much energy and it is a lot more difficult than a normal surface. As such, the rest of the walk wasn’t the fun and friendly experience that I expected early on.
However, seeing the hotel after 19.4 miles was very relieving.
Today was just a warm-up, though. There is still so much to come and I will make sure to work my ass off and complete the Camino.
Until tomorrow!
